Check out our common questions before reaching out to the team.

  • When is the next training date

All training dates can be found here.

  • How long is the training?

The previous Diabetes in Schools training as a 3-hour online presentation.

Now it is an e-learning component (LEARN) which takes about 1 hour and can be done at your own convenience.

The webinar (ENGAGE) is a 1 hour session with interactive questions. The session may run longer (optional) if there are lots of questions from schools that need to be answered.

The QUIZ only takes 10 minutes and will provide your certificate for the whole training.

  • Why is this not face-to-face?

The diabetes team will still come to your school to deliver a care plan and support your school, including demonstrating elements.

The initial training is virtual to provide a more convenient delivery method for both the NHS team and schools, allowing more people to access the education.

  • Is my school eligible for this training?

If your school is based in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland then the University Hospitals of Leicester Diabetes in Schools team are here to support you.

If you are outside of this region, unfortunately, it is not available in your area. reach out to your local hospital for support.

You will need mobile phone to participate in the interactive questions. Everyone will need this even if you are joining around one screen.

Remember, you can only get the certificate if you have completed your own e-learning and quiz.

  • Why should I do this course?

Children with type 1 diabetes are either entering a new school or have just been diagnosed. Providing an understanding and caring environment for them will help support both the pupil and the school staff in knowing how to care for them.

The support is free and only takes a short amount of time.

If you are unsure what you should do if a child is hypoglycaemic then we can help.

  • Should the school have Glucagon and a Sharps bin?

The parents will be able to provide these items to the school.

They can get the supplies from the diabetes team and bring them in.

  • What is Deapp - The Diabetes Education App?

School Staff can download Deapp on their devices, this is a diabetes education platform with lots of videos and content about type 1 diabetes.

  • How do I get a certificate?

You will only receive a certificate once you have completed the QUIZ.

This means there is no certificate for the LEARN section as the education is not complete.

To access the QUIZ you will need the password which will be given in the webinar (ENGAGE) session.

  • How do I find the Quiz?
